A friend of mine, Dr Nomkhosi, said I am "Schumacher". I laughed at this and brushed it off. I am always fast. It's my default state, Isn't it? Yes, it sure is!! There is nothing wrong about it, is there? Well it's a catch 22 situation. Because I am fast, I turn to do more than an average person. The process of taking in more without being mindful makes me perform like a machine or robot. That leads to "BURNOUT" and imbalance.

I was very defensive when my friend shared this, even though I internalised it. I mean this has worked well so far, or so I thought. Recently, I took a hike at Kloofendal mountain (the opposite side of the nature reserve). The mountain was high, but I had the desire to climb it. With excitement I wore my orange running shoes and flowing cotton dress. Took my lemon water and off I went. I thought of a strategy to overcome this beautiful but high mountain. "I will walk a little, not run, stop, breath in a lot, look around me, take in the beautiful views, look at the indigenous trees before me, touch them, feel the texture of the leaves, look at the rocks, touch them and proceed". My eyes were having a feast. Such beauty, I was passing by daily chasing the never ending deadlines.

In 40 minutes I was done with the hike/mountain climbing. I reached the mountain top. I could see Clearwater mall from the top of the mountain, it was soo unbelievable, a surreal moment. The clean air I inhaled in my lungs was magic. Even though I was catching my breath, the happiness I had was too much. I thought, "I need to do this more often"!! It really felt good to be present in the moment and not rush!!

This blog is dedicated to Dr Nomkhosi Nomdudu. A physician full of life!!
